On Thursday, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, the former Bishop of the Archdiocese of Abuja, expressed his view that it is illogical to administer oaths to individuals when there are unresolved legal issues that require attention in court.

It is anticipated that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who won the presidential election, will take the oath of office and become the president on May 29th.

On the topic of fairness, Onaiyekan remarked that the current situation is abnormal because there are pending court cases that have not been resolved. He pointed out that there is a president-elect whose election is being contested in court and is yet to be determined.

"I am waiting for the court's verdict on the election outcome. It seems illogical to inaugurate candidates while their cases are still pending in court. Although this has happened with governors in the past, it has not always yielded favorable results. Thus, I believe that we should reconsider our electoral process to ensure that we have a clear winner who can be inaugurated and have the support of everyone."

It's unfortunate that the court is taking a considerable amount of time to reach a decision. The issue I have is that the election process as a whole needs to be re-evaluated to make it easier for the people's preferred candidates to win.

It's not appropriate to have a system that is frequently challenged. It's essential to understand why every election is being contested. It's worth noting that the Presidential Election Tribunal has scheduled a hearing for the petitionso n May 8th.
