Returning Nigerian students who were evacuated from Egypt have shared their experience, claiming that some female students were subjected to sexual harassment, and that they were so financially destitute that they resorted to stealing items from stores and fleeing.
Upon arrival at the International Airport Abuja, a female student who had returned recounted to journalists the hardships they had faced, including sleeping outdoors and being subjected to humiliation.
She explained that they had depleted all of their funds, were constantly hungry and thirsty, and were subjected to sexual harassment. The situation became so dire that they resorted to stealing items from stores in order to survive.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, another female student stated that their legs had become swollen as a result of spending long hours on the buses.
A male student recounted his experience, revealing that the situation had become so dire that they had to pay to use the restroom. He expressed his hope that the conflict in Sudan would soon come to an end so that he could return and complete the final semester of his program.
