Dino Melaye, the PDP governorship candidate in Kogi state, pledged to abolish "percentage salary payments" that have negatively impacted workers and the state's economy for the past eight years. He made this commitment during a visit to traditional rulers and the council of chiefs of Mopa-Amuro, Yagba-East, and Yagba-West LGAs.

In a statement issued by his media team, the PDP candidate emphasized that Kogi state, despite its abundant resources, should not be plagued by poverty.

He further stated, "If elected as governor, we will foster economic growth and generate sufficient revenue to ensure food security and meet the essential needs of our people."

He asserted that considering the abundance of natural resources in the state, poverty has no place in Kogi.

Melaye additionally pledged to alleviate hunger and prevent starvation among the residents of Kogi. He expressed his determination to explore innovative solutions to harness the necessary resources for the state's development.

The former Kogi lawmaker gave reassurance to the traditional rulers that their rights and authority within the state would be reinstated if he were elected as governor.

He remarked that the state's economy is currently in a difficult situation due to the meager salaries received by workers and pensioners.

"Our esteemed traditional leaders, your highnesses and majesties, will no longer be limited to mere ceremonial roles. We will establish an enabling environment that allows you to actively and significantly contribute to the governance of our state, occupying well-deserved and appropriate offices."
