President Bola Tinubu has received an earnest plea from concerned parents of the Chibok Girls, urging him to take necessary steps in ensuring the safe release of the 92 abducted girls who are still held captive by Boko Haram.

Yana Galang, the mother of Rifkatu Galang who is still in captivity, and Zanna Lawan, the father of Aisha Lawan who is also held captive, expressed their congratulations to Tinubu and Kashim Shettima upon assuming the positions of president and vice president of Nigeria. This message was conveyed in a letter on behalf of the Concerned Parents of Chibok Girls.

In their letter, the parents humbly appealed to Tinubu for assistance in securing the freedom of the remaining girls who are still held captive. They emphasized that the distressing situation began in 2014 when 276 daughters from Chibok Government Secondary School were tragically abducted, highlighting Tinubu's awareness of this longstanding predicament.

After enduring years of anguish and suffering, the parents expressed their deep dismay that, even after nine years and shortly before the conclusion of the previous administration, 92 girls are still held captive by Boko Haram. These young girls have been subjected to unimaginable horrors and mistreatment at the hands of their captors.

In reference to Tinubu's inaugural speech, although he did not directly address the specific plight of the Chibok parents, he made a commitment to prioritize national security.

Therefore, the concerned parents of Chibok earnestly implore Your Excellency to once again focus attention on the recovery and rescue of the remaining 92 kidnapped daughters, as they base their appeal on the assurance of Tinubu's dedication to addressing security concerns.

The parents highlighted an important statement made by former President Muhammadu Buhari during his inaugural speech on May 29, 2015. In that speech, he acknowledged that his administration could not consider Boko Haram defeated until the Chibok girls were rescued.

Furthermore, the parents mentioned the release of a statement titled "Chibok Girls Still on Our Minds" on April 14, 2021. This statement served as a reminder of the former President's commitment and reassurance that all the girls would be rescued and successfully reintegrated into their communities.

As the baton is passed within the same political party in 2023, the parents expressed their belief that history will look favorably upon President Tinubu, his family, his government, and his party if they fulfill the promises made by their predecessor. They especially highlighted the presence of Vice President Shettima, who hails from their own community.

The parents earnestly appealed to Mr. President, urging him to become a beacon of light that dispels their darkness, alleviates their excruciating pain, wipes away their tears, and liberates them from the chains of sadness, sorrow, and anguish that their journey has imposed upon their lives.

In acknowledging the ninth anniversary of the abduction this year, the parents expressed their initial hope of not having to hold any further commemorations. They genuinely did not desire to go through the painful process again. However, with deep regret, it appears that another solemn remembrance is on the horizon unless President Tinubu intervenes and provides them with the comfort they desperately seek. The parents emphasized their patient anticipation for this much-needed relief, which they perceive as their only viable alternative.
