A 16-year-old boy, Nathaniel Ogenowchukwu, has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly defiling a two-year-old girl.

The incident happened on June 7, when the suspect lured the minor into his room and had defiled her.

The police were alerted to the incident and the suspect was arrested. He is currently being held in police custody and is being investigated for the crime.

The police have said that they will not tolerate any form of child abuse and that they will ensure that the suspect is brought to justice.

According to SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson of the Edo Police Command, the incident was confirmed by him. The suspect, in the Egba community of Uhunwonde Local Government Area in the state, committed the offense as stated. Nwabuzor mentioned that the police received a report regarding Ogenowchukwu's act of defiling a two-year-old baby.

The ongoing investigation into the incident is being conducted by the gender unit of the criminal investigation department, as stated by the spokesperson. Once the investigation is concluded, the suspect will be prosecuted in court, as assured by the police. However, during an interview, Ogenowchukwu expressed his lack of understanding regarding his actions, stating that he didn't know what came over him.

He explained that the two-year-old child usually visits his sister, and on that particular day, he tried to take her back home when he realized his sister was not present, but the child refused to leave.

Therefore, I lifted her and placed her on the bed, partially pulling down her underwear. However, I did not engage in sexual intercourse with her. I only positioned my penis between her thighs.

"I cannot comprehend what influenced my actions, as I have never engaged in such behavior before," he expressed remorsefully.
