Jonathan, a 41-year-old man from the Netherlands who is believed to have fathered over 550 children globally through sperm donations, has been directed to discontinue his actions. If he attempts to donate again, he may face a penalty of more than 100,000 (£88,000). Following the revelation that he had fathered over 100 children, he was prohibited from donating to fertility clinics in the Netherlands in 2017.

Rather than discontinuing his activities, he continued to donate sperm online and outside the country. The court in The Hague has directed him to furnish a record of all the clinics he had utilized and to instruct them to dispose of his sperm.

According to Dutch clinical protocols, a donor is advised not to sire more than 25 offspring across 12 families. The objective is to minimize the risk of siblings unwittingly developing a relationship and having offspring together. However, the judges ruled that the man had assisted in the production of between 550 and 600 children since he started donating sperm in 2007. He was summoned to court by an organization safeguarding the rights of children fathered by donors and by a mother who claimed that her child was conceived with his sperm.
