Yesterday, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), acting on behalf of the Federal Government, instructed airlines that operate at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) to move their aircraft to other airports.

A memo was obtained from Mr. Kabir Mohammed, FAAN's Regional General Manager at the Abuja Airport, which was addressed to all airlines. The memo stated that due to the upcoming Presidential Inauguration scheduled for May 29, 2023, it was necessary for the airlines to temporarily move their aircraft to other airports.

"Due to the high-security nature of the presidential inauguration, it is imperative to guarantee the safety and security of all parties concerned. As a result, it has become necessary to temporarily move all parked aircraft at the GAT to other airports. You are therefore advised to relocate your aircraft on or before May 22, 2023. While we recognize that this may cause some inconvenience, the safety and security of all individuals involved in this event is of utmost importance to us.

We are of the opinion that this temporary relocation aligns with the best international practices. If you have any inquiries or concerns about this matter, please feel free to reach out to us". The memo stated.
