Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, has acknowledged the possibility of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu being inaugurated as Nigeria's next president on May 29.

Despite the potential inauguration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria's next president, former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, remains steadfast in his pursuit of justice to reclaim his allegedly stolen mandate. He maintains confidence in obtaining justice through the legal system, drawing inspiration from his past experience of reclaiming the Governorship of Anambra State from Chris Ngige, who is currently serving as the Minister of Labour and Employment of Nigeria. This occurred three years after Ngige's initial swearing-in.

According to reports, the pre-trial proceedings at the Presidential Election Tribunal concluded on Tuesday, and the main trial is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, May 30.

The petitioners have been granted a period of three weeks, starting from May 30 to June 23, to present their case, which is shorter than the seven weeks they had initially requested. In response, Peter Obi, speaking through his spokesperson, Diran Onifade, highlighted instances where individuals were recalled after being sworn into office. He expressed optimism that the court will ultimately deliver justice for him, whether it be in the immediate or later stages of the legal process.

Governor Chris Ngige served in Anambra State for a period of three years until his election was deemed flawed and he was subsequently removed. Similar situations have occurred recently, such as the case of Emeka Ihedioha in Imo State, who was asked to step down in favor of Hope Uzodimma. These instances demonstrate that such occurrences are not uncommon and are part of the functioning of our system. Some may speculate that executive powers could potentially influence the courts, but it is important to note that our system upholds the principle of separation of powers.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday evening, Peter Obi's spokesperson, Diran Onifade, emphasized that when one seeks justice in court, there is an expectation of receiving it. He cited examples of individuals who have obtained justice through the Nigerian court system, highlighting that we cannot disregard these cases. Onifade expressed trust in the court system, as the constitution does not provide an alternative option.
