The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a warning to Nigerians regarding a fraudulent "scam alert" circulated by dishonest individuals through a counterfeit EFCC Help Desk.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), fraudulent calls falsely claiming to be from the EFCC help desk have been circulating as part of the scam alert.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, the spokesperson of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that the viral "Scam Alert" on social media is completely false.
To clarify, the EFCC does not operate such a help desk, and any information allegedly originating from the purported EFCC HELP DESK is not authentic and did not come from the EFCC.
The involvement of the EFCC in the Scam Alert suggests that the individuals behind it have malicious intentions.
It is crucial to inform the public that the EFCC cannot be held responsible if anyone falls victim to this obvious scam.
Therefore, the commission strongly advises the public to exercise caution and verify any suspicious information directly with them.
