Yesterday, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu dissolved the 9th State House of Assembly and ushered in the commencement of the 10th legislative session.
Following the Assembly's inauguration, Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the 9th Lagos State House of Assembly representing Agege Constituency 1, was re-elected as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly. Additionally, Monisola Lasbat, who previously served as the Chief Whip of the 9th Assembly representing Apapa Constituency 1, was elected as the Deputy Speaker after being nominated and widely accepted by the newly elected lawmakers.
In his address to the Assembly, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the proclamation ceremony not only signifies the continuation of the nation's democratic journey but also highlights the crucial role of legislative power within the governance system.
As we gaze ahead, it is essential to recall the significance of collaboration, dialogue, and mutual respect. The Executive and the Legislature are interconnected allies on this democratic voyage.

During his acceptance speech, Obasa expressed his appreciation to his fellow colleagues for their vote of confidence in re-electing him as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly.
Obasa expressed gratitude to Sanwo-Olu for his support and emphasized the significance of his defense of the legislature against external forces and manipulations.
Following the inauguration of the 10th Assembly, Obasa called upon his fellow colleagues to collaborate with him in pursuit of their primary objectives.
The speaker highlighted, "To achieve our goals, we must exert diligent efforts, foster innovation, and, above all, maintain our unity. As esteemed members, we must refrain from engaging in or supporting negative publicity and publications concerning this House."
