Yesterday in Yenagoa, the capital city of Bayelsa State, corps members celebrated the 50th anniversary of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with a unity rally.
Despite the challenges that the scheme has faced over the years, the corps members acknowledged that it has been at the forefront of promoting national unity, integration, and development.
The Peace rally began at Yenagoa's Peace Park, where staff and corps members from Bayelsa State expressed their admiration for the achievements of the scheme over the years. The State Coordinator, Okpalifo Charity, who flagged off the rally, explained that it was one of the programs organized by the Directorate Headquarters to commemorate the anniversary of the NYSC.
She noted that the chosen theme, "NYSC: Five Decades of Fostering National Unity And Integration," was appropriate, considering that the scheme was founded on May 22, 1973.
