Following accusations of assaulting a police officer in Lagos, Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has been ordered to be arrested by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba. Additionally, the IG has called for a thorough and prompt investigation into the matter to determine the underlying reasons for the incident, and for the suspect to be tried as appropriate.

 

In a social media post obtained, the musician claimed that the police officer involved had attempted to murder him and his family. The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adéjọbí, addressed the incident in a statement on Saturday evening, stating that the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has instructed the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State to apprehend Afrobeat artist Seun Kuti, who was caught on camera assaulting a police officer in uniform. The IG has also called for a swift and thorough investigation into the incident's underlying causes, as well as the appropriate prosecution of the accused.

 

 "The IG, Baba, has reassured Nigerians that actions displaying disrespect or disregard for symbols of authority will not be condoned, and that individuals found guilty of such reprehensible acts will be held accountable. Meanwhile, in a social media post obtained by our correspondent on Saturday night, Ṣeun Kuti stated that the police officer implicated in the alleged attempt to murder him and his family had apologized."

 

According to Kuti, 'He attempted to murder me and my family, and I possess evidence to back up my claim, but I am not seeking attention. He has expressed regret, and I have decided not to pursue legal action. Let's all focus on our own affairs so that this man doesn't lose his job."
