Reportedly, Yoruba actor and filmmaker, Murphy Afolabi, passed away after a fall in his bathroom on Sunday morning, May 14, 2023. This news came just a day after the death of popular Nollywood actor Saint Obi. Afolabi was known for his roles in Yoruba movies.

Seun Olaiya, the president of the Yoruba movies directors guild and a filmmaker, reportedly shared the news of Murphy Afolabi's passing on a WhatsApp platform used by filmmakers. His statement was confirmed by Abdullahi Abdulrasaq, the Managing Director of Corporate Pictures Nigeria Limited, a well-known movie marketing company.

 

In his message, Olaiya expressed his shock and disbelief, saying, "I was just praising him before I heard the news. This is such a sudden and unexpected tragedy."

Seun Oloketuyi, a showbiz personality and the organizer of the Best of Nollywood Awards, also confirmed the news of Murphy Afolabi's passing to our correspondent. He stated that the actor had suffered a fall in his bathroom at his residence in Ikorodu, which led to his death earlier that morning.

 

Meanwhile, filmmaker Tunde Ola-Yusuf shared a photo of the late actor on Facebook, along with a message expressing condolences to his family and loved ones. He wrote, "Rest in peace, Murphy Afolabi. May God grant his family and friends the strength to bear this loss. Good night."

Fidelis Duker, another filmmaker, expressed his shock at the news of Murphy Afolabi's passing, writing on social media, "I just saw him in a movie. What is happening?"

 

Meanwhile, several Yoruba actors shared their condolences and expressed their sympathies to the family of the late actor.

Murphy Afolabi, who was born on May 5, 1974, entered the film industry in 2001 and went on to appear in over 60 movies before his untimely death.
