The Lagos State Police Command reported the arrest of Aliu Tijani, a welder who aided a suspected cultist in removing his handcuffs after escaping from police custody.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, confirmed the incident on Sunday. According to Hundeyin, the suspected cultist, Wasiu Opeyemi, had initially been arrested in 2021 but managed to escape from police custody. However, he was subsequently apprehended by the command's officers last week.
In a tweet from his official Twitter handle, @BenHundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) provided details about the incident. The PPRO stated that Wasiu Opeyemi, a suspected cultist, had managed to escape from police custody in August 2021 while still wearing handcuffs.
The PPRO further mentioned that last week, both Wasiu Opeyemi and Aliu Tijani, the welder who assisted in cutting off the handcuffs during the initial escape, were re-arrested. He also informed that both suspects had been arraigned and were presently being held in remand.
