On Monday, Anthony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, revealed that visa restrictions have been enforced on certain individuals who undermined the democratic process in Nigeria's 2023 elections. Our dedication to supporting Nigeria's endeavors to enhance democracy and uphold the rule of law remains unwavering.

In a statement released today, I have announced that visa restrictions have been implemented on certain individuals in Nigeria who have been found to have undermined the democratic process during the country's 2023 elections cycle. The United States remains committed to promoting and supporting democracy both in Nigeria and around the world. It is important to note that the visa restrictions only apply to specific individuals and are not intended to target the Nigerian people or government as a whole. As per Section 212(a)(3)C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, these restrictions are imposed on individuals who are believed to have played a role in undermining democracy and will limit their ability to travel to the United States.

The US Government did not provide any names or groups of individuals who are believed to have been involved in undermining the 2023 elections in Nigeria.

As per the statement, the individuals who are subject to the visa restrictions have been involved in activities such as voter intimidation, physical violence, and vote manipulation, which undermine the democratic process in Nigeria. The US government's move to impose visa restrictions is an indication of its ongoing commitment to support Nigeria in its efforts to enhance democracy and the rule of law.
