According to authorities, the Police in Kano have apprehended over 49 individuals believed to be involved in looting activities related to the destruction of properties at Triumph Plaza in Fagge LGA, Kano. The incident occurred as a consequence of the recent demolition efforts initiated by the newly appointed Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf. Reportedly, the local youths exploited the situation to pillage properties amidst the debris.

As the state underwent a series of demolitions over the past few days, initiated by the Governor who pledged to reclaim public lands allegedly sold during the previous administration, it has come to light that a significant number of individuals engaged in looting. The arrest of these individuals has been verified by SP Abdullahi Haruna, the spokesperson for the Kano police command, who stated that the police received a distress call from an informant regarding the looting activities, leading to the subsequent apprehension of the suspects.

 

Upon receiving the reports, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, the Commissioner of Police for Kano State Command, swiftly instructed the deployment of Operation Restore Peace teams to the location. As a result, the suspected looters were swiftly dispersed.

A total of forty-nine (49) individuals were apprehended during the operation, and the authorities were able to recover the following looted items: three flash doors, flash windows, four LG air conditioners, eight pieces of polling door iron, sixteen (16) heavy-duty hammers, and other miscellaneous items.

 

The investigation into the matter is currently underway.

Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police urged parents and community leaders to engage in discussions with their children and young members of the community, urging them to refrain from engaging in the looting of others' properties. He emphasized that such actions constitute clear instances of mischief and theft, both of which carry legal consequences. SP Haruna reiterated this statement.
