Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, who served as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, expressed his belief that the 10th National Assembly will operate without any restrictions or hindrances under the leadership of President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

During an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, Ikuforiji shared his views on the ongoing race for the leadership of the National Assembly. The ruling party's National Working Committee (NWC) has already decided to zone the Senate Presidency to the South-South and the Speakership of the House of Representatives to the North-West for the upcoming 10th National Assembly.

The APC has also designated the North-West to produce the Deputy Senate President and the South-East to produce the Deputy Speaker, according to the zoning arrangement.

The APC's zoning decision has faced opposition within the party as different zones have made new requests to the party leadership. The party has selected Senators Godswill Akpabio/Barau Jubrin for Senate leadership and Abass Tajudeen/Ben Kalu for House of Representatives leadership based on the zoning arrangement and the candidates presented by President-Elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Although some stakeholders have shown support for the party's decision, others have voiced their opposition and called for a review. However, in light of concerns about a National Assembly that will simply approve all government proposals without question, Ikuforiji asserted that Tinubu's leadership would promote an independent National Assembly. He expressed confidence that with Tinubu as the incoming President from May 29, both the judiciary and legislature would benefit greatly.

According to Ikuforiji, Tinubu holds a strong belief in democratic principles and does not try to use the financial power of the executive to influence the legislature or judiciary. He cited Lagos as an example of Tinubu's leadership style, where the legislature thrived and became a model for others in the country.
