According to the Rivers State Police Command, a group of three individuals who have been involved in the destruction of streetlights and theft of their components in the Borikiri area of Port Harcourt have been arrested. It was also disclosed that the streetlights were initially provided for the community by the Niger Delta Development Commission.

On Wednesday, Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the command, announced in a statement released in Port Harcourt that the police had apprehended the streetlight vandals. She explained that the arrest was made after the police received credible information from community leaders in Borokiri. The statement revealed that the three individuals - Belema Aggo, Michael Edet, and George Itarikabo - were caught in the act of destroying streetlights that were originally provided for the community by the NDDC.

The suspects, along with several items such as eight solar panels, eight heavy-duty batteries, and two street lights, are currently in police custody. The authorities are continuing their investigation to arrest other members of the gang involved in the theft, as well as those who had previously received stolen items.

The police have reported another incident in which their anti-cultism unit, during a routine stop and search along the Polo Club by GRA in Port Harcourt, apprehended a suspected armed robber. The suspect, identified as Covenant Okon, 26, was found to have hidden a revolver pistol in his car with registration number SKP 990 PM. Upon conducting a search, the authorities recovered the weapon, along with one live ammunition. The statement also mentioned that the suspect and the confiscated items are now in police custody, and investigations are underway to identify and apprehend other members of his group.

The spokesperson for the state police urged members of the public to aid the police by providing any valuable information regarding any suspicious movements or activities. She called upon the people and residents of the state to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive in the fight against crime. Iringe-Koko also emphasized the need for individuals to report any criminal acts promptly to the nearest police station.
