Ganiu Tajudeen, a landlord aged 44, has been presented before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for reportedly ejecting his tenant's belongings from his flat without providing a quit notice. The accused is facing a four-count charge relating to illegal eviction and disturbing the peace.

Despite the charges levied by the police, the defendant entered a plea of not guilty. According to ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, the prosecutor, on April 27 at 10:30 a.m., at No. 5, Titilayo St., Laisu Road, Ikotun, Lagos State, the defendant and others yet to be apprehended, allegedly committed the offenses.

According to his statement, the defendant forcibly gained entry into Mr. Olamilekan Oloyede's residence and evicted him from the property after his tenancy had expired.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant did not provide the tenant with any formal notice to vacate the premises but instead took matters into his own hands. Additionally, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan claimed that the defendant had also committed theft, making away with property belonging to the tenant valued at N144,000. The stolen items listed by the prosecutor include an Elemax power generator valued at N50,000, a pressing iron valued at N10,000, an aluminum sheet valued at N14,000, and a 42-inch Samsung television set valued at N70,000.

The prosecutor stated that the defendant's actions violated Sections 168(d), 287, 308, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Miss K. A. Ariyo, the Magistrate, granted the landlord bail of N100,000, to be secured by two sureties providing the same amount.

The Magistrate instructed that the sureties must be employed and able to provide evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government. The case was adjourned until May 22 for mention by Ariyo.(NAN).
