The payment of six months' salary arrears has been approved by the Police Service Commission (PSC) for the 2021/2022 recruits who have been deployed in various commands and formations across the country.

According to Ikechukwu Ani, the spokesperson for the Police Service Commission (PSC), the decision to approve payment of six months' arrears for the 2021/2022 police recruits was influenced by national security concerns. He further explained that the commission's timely response was also due to public outcry and appeals from concerned Nigerians. The recruits, who have not yet been enrolled into the Federal Government's Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), had not received their salaries for six months after completing their training at police colleges and being deployed to various commands and formations. The commission wanted to ensure that they were not negatively impacted by the ongoing dispute between the commission and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

In a letter dated May 5, 2023, and signed by the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Commission, Dr. Ifeoma Anyanwutaku, the Police Service Commission (PSC) conveyed its approval for the enrolment of 1,007 newly recruited personnel into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) through the 2021/2022 recruitment exercise onto the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) payment platform. The letter further requested the Accountant General of the Federation to ensure a prompt and favorable response in activating and implementing the necessary processes and procedures required for the police officers to be captured on the payment platform and paid accordingly.

The former Inspector General of Police and current Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, expressed discomfort upon reading news reports that the affected officers had resorted to begging for alms and engaging in other unsavory activities to sustain themselves. As a result, he has taken immediate steps to address all outstanding and potential issues related to the matter.
