On Tuesday, while presenting keys to new homeowners at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Zuba in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), President Buhari declared that his administration had fulfilled its promise of change. During the inauguration of the 18.5-hectare estate, which comprises 748 units of various house types in 75 blocks, the President gave a speech. The beneficiaries were encouraged to coexist peacefully and harmoniously.

During the inauguration of the estate, President Buhari congratulated the new homeowners and declared that his promise of change had been fulfilled for them. He also urged the residents to collaborate with the FHA to maintain the property and ensure a safe environment. The President commended the FHA's Chairman, Managing Director, Board Members, and Staff for their successful completion of the project, which he said was evidence of his administration's dedication to lifting people out of poverty.

President Buhari stated that the provision of housing is a critical factor in addressing the multi-dimensional poverty that affects the Nigerian people, and the completion of the estate offers a solution to the beneficiaries. He added that the new homeowners have taken a significant step towards prosperity and away from poverty.

President Buhari recognized that many Nigerians are waiting to benefit from the mass housing project and encouraged the management of FHA to continue delivering other projects currently under construction and development across various states. He emphasized that the provision of infrastructure is a vital strategy his administration is using to tackle poverty, foster prosperity, and promote economic growth. The President added that such investments also generate job opportunities for artisans and skilled members of society.

According to the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, the successful completion of the housing project was due to the teamwork and leadership provided by the President, who authorized the appointments into the leadership positions of the FHA Board and Management. He stated that the project resulted in 748 housing units being completed and made available for Nigerians and their families to reside in, as opposed to the abandoned projects of the past. The Minister further mentioned that the project had engaged 75 contractors and provided job opportunities for over 13,000 Nigerians, both directly and indirectly.

Fashola informed the President that the five individuals who received keys to their flats, namely Tina Orkpe, Salisu Iliyasu, Ado Maude, Rabina Abdulkadir, and Flight Sgt. Musa Mohammed, had subscribed to the FHA Rent-to-Own delivery model.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors at FHA, Senator Shuaibu Lawal, expressed gratitude to the President for providing a grant of N7.5 billion, which enabled the project to commence in May 2018. He acknowledged that without this grant serving as the seed money, the project would not have been possible. Senator Lawal praised the President, stating that he deserves all the credit for the successful completion of the project.

Ashafa stated that the FHA has initiated the development of Bwari Estate, located near the Nigeria Law School in Abuja, which will deliver 336 housing units of various types in the first phase of the project. He also mentioned that the proposed Diaspora City initiative, which aims to serve Nigerians living abroad, is currently underway, and plans are in place to extend the program to all regions of the country, with Abuja serving as the pilot location.
