Rochas Okorocha, the former governor of Imo state, narrowly avoided an assassination attempt by unidentified individuals in the vicinity of Ihube community along the Okigwe-Enugu expressway

On Sunday, during his attendance at the birthday celebration of Samuel Anyanwu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Imo state governorship, Okorocha briefly addressed the attack. The incident occurred in Amaimo, located in the Ikeduru council area of the state. It was reported that the security convoy accompanying Okorocha consisted of Enugu state government security personnel assigned to ensure his safety

Elaborating on the incident, Okorocha briefly stated, "It is puzzling that I spent two peaceful days in Enugu, only to be attacked upon my arrival in Imo state. The convoy that brought me to Imo was also targeted during their return to Enugu, resulting in an attack where one individual lost their life."

"Why does it have to be this way in Imo state? I am deeply saddened by the ongoing events in Imo state. The convoy was assisting in transporting me to the funeral of the mother of the former governor, Emeka Ihedioha."

He continued, "After dropping me off at my residence, Spibat Mansion, in Owerri, as they were returning to Enugu, the convoy came under attack. It's truly disheartening to witness such a situation in Imo state."
