As part of the global shift towards electric vehicles, Lagos has become one of the cities to embrace this technology. Oando Clean Energy Limited (OCEL), in collaboration with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), has successfully launched its Electric-Mass Transit buses.

The initiative aims to revolutionize the public transport system in the state by creating and implementing a sustainable pathway towards a carbon-neutral mobility ecosystem.

To kickstart this transformation, the electric buses were introduced in a three-month Proof-of-Concept (PoC) phase, which aims to demonstrate the feasibility of using electric vehicles for mass transportation in Lagos State. Following the PoC phase, a Pilot phase will be initiated, expanding the fleet and bus routes. Ultimately, the plan is to deploy these electric buses nationwide, generating employment opportunities for over 30,000 Nigerians.

During the event, Abimbola Akinoja, the Managing Director of LAMATA, expressed the significance of the initiative by stating, "This endeavor plays a crucial role in our transportation vision for Lagos State, as we are committed to establishing a transportation system that is both clean and efficient."

Expressing his enthusiasm, Dr. Ainojie Irune, the President/Chief Executive Officer of OCEL, highlighted the transformative nature of the concept, stating, "I am delighted that within just over a year of Oando Clean Energy approaching us to explore the possibility of collaborating in the deployment of electric buses, we have successfully signed an MoU. One of the key objectives of this partnership is to implement a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) that will allow us to integrate electric buses into our transportation ecosystem." Dr. Ainojie Irune further emphasized that the aim of the concept is to revolutionize Nigeria's transport sector.
