The Lagos State Government has issued a warning to motorists about the failed Deck-on-Pile Bridge at Ijora Olopa inbound Ijora Oloye. They have also implemented traffic diversion measures until the necessary repairs are carried out.

Dr. Fredric Oladeinde, the State Commissioner for Transportation, announced on Wednesday that the bridge has been closed for repairs. However, he did not provide a specific timeframe for the repairs and traffic diversion. He emphasized that the diversion was implemented temporarily until the Federal Government, in partnership with the state government, completes the necessary repairs.

The commissioner has outlined alternative routes to minimize inconvenience for motorists. These routes include using Iganmu/Sifax from Eko Bridge to access Ijora Oloye or Apapa.

Motorists traveling from Iddo to Ijora-Oloye/Apapa will be redirected at the underpass intersection in a contra flow, and they can reconnect at the U-Turn towards Ijora-Oloye or Apapa.

The Ministry of Transportation has made an appeal to motorists using this route to cooperate with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and adhere to the traffic management measures implemented.

A statement from the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, conveyed through his Special Adviser on Communications, Hakeem Bello, stated the following: "The Federal Government has issued a directive for the immediate closure of the Ijora-Olopa Bridge. This decision was made after discovering that some individuals had tampered with the key reinforcement elements of the bridge deck, leading to the failure of a section of the bridge along Ijora Olopa Road, adjacent to Water Corporation, Ijora.

Consequently, roads that directly lead to the bridge, such as Costain inward Eko Bridge and Carter Bridge descent inward Ijora Oloye, have been closed to traffic since last night."

In collaboration with the Lagos State Government and other traffic management authorities, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos has provided the following Traffic Advisory to facilitate the usage of alternative routes:

Motorists coming from Eko Bridge are advised to take the route via IGANMU/SIFAX to reach Ijora Oloye or Apapa.

For motorists traveling from Iddo to Ijora-Oloye/Apapa, traffic will be diverted at the underpass intersection at Ijora Olopa using a contraflow system. They will then be able to reconnect at the U-Turn towards Ijora-Oloye or Apapa.
