As reported by BBC Africa on Thursday, a proposed bill in Ghana, which has not yet been enacted into law, suggests a three-year imprisonment term for individuals involved in same-sex relationships and a ten-year term for those advocating for LGBTQ+ rights.

This development follows recent actions taken by Uganda and other African nations like Nigeria, where stringent regulations against the LGBTQ+ community have been implemented. The bill has received strong condemnation from various international countries.

During her African tour in March, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris visited Ghana, Tanzania, and Zambia. In Ghana's parliament, she expressed her opposition to a bill aimed at penalizing supporters of gay rights and imposing jail sentences on individuals identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.

However, Ghana's parliament speaker, Alban Bagbin, criticized her for advocating LGBTQ+ practices in Ghana, stating that her speech undermined the people and the country's values.
