The Lagos area office of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) is facing a significant disruption in its business operations due to roof leaks. Consequently, the building gets flooded whenever it rains, exacerbating the situation.

Despite assurances from officials to renovate the structure, the office located at Mobolaji Bank Anthony way, Maryland, Lagos, remains in a deplorable state. A video circulating online recently captured the distressing scene of rainwater pouring directly through the deteriorated roof, inundating the open office space on the ground floor.

Within the office, numerous computers and work accessories were at risk of damage, prompting employees to hastily protect them by covering them with polythene bags. This incident further highlights the urgent need for comprehensive repairs and renovations to address the office's appalling conditions.

According to The Guardian's findings, two years ago, during a working visit by board members and top executives of the NSITF, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Austin Enajemo-Isire, assured the employees that the deteriorated office would be addressed.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the progress of the ongoing construction of the 18-storey building, which had been under construction for 39 years. Enajemo-Isire expressed his disappointment at the deplorable condition of the office environment, including the leaky roof. He encouraged the employees to refrain from negative thoughts that hindered the progress of the Fund, emphasizing the need for a positive mindset to uplift the organization.

Despite his commitment to organizing another engagement to strategize for a better NSITF, the condition of the office has continued to deteriorate over the course of two years. When contacted, Agboma Okoroafor, the Fund's Deputy General Manager of Administration, declined to comment on the matter.

However, the press learned that the situation is even more dire at the Fund's Abuja office, where workers lack chairs and desks to carry out their daily operations. This further underscores the urgent need for intervention and improvement across multiple NSITF offices to ensure conducive working environments for the employees.
