Dr. Peter Mbah, the newly elected governor of Enugu State, has made a commitment to implement programs and policies aimed at expediting the growth and development of children in the state. Through these initiatives, children will be able to experience the joys of childhood and be nurtured into responsible, privileged, and happy individuals who contribute positively to society.

In a statement released by Dan Nwomeh, the head of the Peter Mbah Media Office, the governor-elect expressed his belief that children are a precious gift from God. He emphasized that his administration will prioritize the implementation of all necessary programs to help children discover and unleash their full potential.

Mbah also highlighted the relevance of this year's nationwide celebration theme, "The state of Nigerian children today: Proper parenting for value orientation and national consciousness," stating that it aligns perfectly with his manifesto. He urged everyone to join forces and work together to ensure a brighter and more prosperous future for children in Nigeria, with a special focus on Enugu State. The aim is to provide an environment where children can experience fulfillment and well-being in all aspects of their lives—emotionally, psychologically, physically, and physiologically.

In addition, he emphasized that his administration would take on the role of a nurturing parent, making basic education, vocational training, and skills acquisition mandatory for all children in the state. He expressed his commitment to implementing the "Cut-off early child learning" program, which aims to provide Enugu children with access to high-quality education, as well as opportunities for vocational and mechanical skill development.

Mbah outlined a range of challenges that need to be addressed, which encompass poverty, inadequate parental care, drug abuse, family issues, child trafficking, a failing educational system, social and religious conflicts, and severe violations of children's rights. He emphasized that his programs would tackle these issues comprehensively, with a focus on eradicating poverty, addressing the problem of school dropouts, and making education both enticing and of high quality, while ensuring that it is accessible to all children and made compulsory.

Recognizing the pressing importance of prioritizing the well-being of children in the state, including their welfare, education, and the provision of a nurturing environment, Mbah pledged to address the barriers preventing them from fully enjoying their rights as stipulated by internationally recognized documents such as the 1959 United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child, the 1989 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the Child's Rights and Responsibility Law of Enugu State, which came into effect in 2016. He affirmed his commitment to tackle these impediments head-on.

The newly elected governor expressed deep concern over the alarming increase in child abuse perpetrated by parents and guardians, as well as the prevalence of child labor and the general neglect of children's welfare. He sternly warned that his administration would not tolerate any actions that deliberately deny children their rights to education, recreation, and vocational opportunities.

He affirmed his intention to leverage the existing child's rights law of the state to collaborate with esteemed organizations such as the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and other international governmental and non-governmental entities. Through these partnerships, he aims to foster the upbringing of healthy and happy children in the state who understand and uphold societal values, demonstrating obedience to the law and making meaningful contributions to society.

He stressed that his vision to engage children at a young age through initiatives such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, smart education, and technological innovation is unwavering. He expressed confidence that his well-structured strategy to incorporate ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in early childhood education will nurture children capable of global competitiveness in the ever-evolving global landscape.

He further reassured children that his purpose is to create a future they can be proud of, emphasizing that they represent the hope for a brighter tomorrow and embody the ideals envisioned in his manifesto, which aims to shape a new world.
