BISHOP Babatunde Adeyemi of the Badagry Diocese, Anglican Communion, is calling on the National Assembly to amend the current electoral laws to allow candidates to focus on governance.

Adeyemi made this statement during the Pre-Synod press briefing for the First Session of the Seventh Synod, hosted by the Cathedral Church of St. Thomas in Badagry, Lagos.

The Bishop clarified that the amendment should involve resolving electoral disputes through the Courts prior to the swearing-in of successful candidates.

He expressed, "The revised laws should incorporate measures to hold both the electoral officials and candidates accountable for engaging in misconduct."

"If individuals were aware beforehand that their actions or lack thereof would be met with severe legal consequences, there would be a heightened sense of caution, potentially resulting in free and fair elections.

"Our nation is in need of healing and restoration. Those entrusted with leadership roles should willingly surrender themselves to God, allowing Him to utilize them as instruments of healing for the nation."
