On Monday, German courts will consider two civil cases accusing the manufacturers of COVID-19 vaccines of causing adverse health effects in certain individuals.

The Regional Court in Rottweil, located in the south-western state of Baden-Württemberg, is set to hear a case brought by a 58-year-old man who claims that his health was harmed by a COVID-19 vaccine produced by German company BioNTech. The man alleges that the vaccine caused a significant deterioration in the vision of his right eye.

He is seeking €150,000 ($163,600) in compensation for the resulting suffering. The court will also examine whether BioNTech is responsible for any potential material damages. BioNTech, headquartered in Mainz, maintains that the man's accusation is without merit.

The woman filed a lawsuit against the company, seeking compensation for severe health issues she believed were caused by a COVID-19 vaccination. However, the initial court dismissed the case, as no product defect or informational error could be found.

Whether a verdict will be delivered on Monday remains uncertain. However, there is a possibility of the parties reaching a settlement.

These two civil cases represent some of the early legal actions taken against COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers in Germany.
