A student identified as Adaeze, a 200-level student of the University of Port Harcourt Accounting department, has been found dead in her apartment, in Aluu on Friday, Nov. 3.

Professor Chima Wokocha, the UniPort’s Dean of Student Affairs, said that when the police and the management of the university visited her residence, a bottle of a substance was found beside her body.

Wokocha also said that the parents of Adaeze had also been notified of the incident.

His word, “Her body was brought to the Chief Lulu-Brigss Health Centre by people who live around her in her lodge.

“She didn’t die in the university hostel. She died in her off-campus residence in Aluu and the scene of the crime was visited by the management of the university, including my humble self.

“The police were there with us also. We acknowledge the fact that she had taken a substance and passed out because there was a bottle of a substance that was found by her side.

“The parents have come there and I think they are making arrangements to take the body.”

Following Wokocha's announcement, some students of Uniport claimed on social media that students and residents of the area where the deceased was found were picked up at random by the police.

The Rivers State Police Command PRO, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the death of Adaeze. According to her, an investigation has commenced to ascertain the circumstances leading to her death.

Iringe-Koko’s words, “The Divisional Police Officer said a landlord came to report that he saw his tenant on the ground.

“So the DPO went there, they saw foam coming out from her nose and mouth and they also saw an insecticide close to her.

“They rushed her to the Hospital where she was confirmed dead. Investigation is ongoing to find out the circumstances leading to her death.”
