It has been confirmed that two individuals lost their lives over the weekend in Sheka, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, after consuming tea that was brewed with a locally known leaf called Zakami at a wedding ceremony.

Usman Musa Zakari, the ward head of the area, informed journalists who visited the location yesterday about the incident, confirming that two individuals lost their lives. This differs from unverified reports in the area which claimed that the number of casualties was seven or more. Zakari identified the two deceased individuals as Mubarak Bala, who was also known as Diga, and Ibrahim Khalil.

As stated by Zakari, "The incident did indeed occur. It happened when the individuals consumed a tea that was made with a local leaf named Zakami, along with a mix of other substances. Two individuals lost their lives and eight others were hospitalized."

"Various versions of the story are circulating, however, I appointed individuals to investigate the matter and we discovered that only two people died. One person informed me that four individuals died, but when I requested to visit the homes, they admitted that it was merely a rumor.

"Furthermore, eight individuals were taken to the hospital after drinking the tea, but they have since been discharged and are currently resuming their daily routines."

When contacted, SP Abdullahi Haruna, the spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, stated that no official report regarding the incident had been filed with the local police division. However, he assured that he would investigate the matter and provide an update as soon as possible.
