According to a Sunday forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), the Nigerian atmosphere is expected to experience intermittent rains accompanied by thunderstorms, following the occurrence of strong winds.
This weather pattern is anticipated to persist from Monday through Wednesday. NiMet's weather outlook, released in Abuja, predicts a cloudy atmosphere on Monday in the Northern region, with intervals of sunshine. There are also chances of morning thunderstorms over certain areas of Taraba and Kebbi.
According to the agency's forecast, there is a likelihood of thunderstorms occurring later in the day over certain areas including Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kebbi.
The North Central region is expected to have a cloudy atmosphere with possibilities of morning rains and drizzles over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Benue.
NiMet has also predicted thunderstorms and intermittent rains over most parts of the region later in the day.
The South, both inland and coastal cities, is expected to have a cloudy atmosphere with chances of morning rains over specific areas such as Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.
NiMet stated that the region can anticipate intermittent rains occurring from the afternoon to evening hours.
On Tuesday morning, the northern region is expected to have a sunny atmosphere with scattered clouds, according to NiMet's forecast.
NiMet also predicted thunderstorms over certain areas including Adamawa, Taraba, and Kaduna State later in the day.
The North Central region is likely to experience a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine, along with the possibility of morning rains over parts of Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Benue, and Kwara.
Parts of Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, and Niger States can expect thunderstorms accompanied by intermittent rains later in the day.
NiMet's forecast indicates that the inland and coastal cities of the South will experience cloudy skies. There are also prospects of morning rains over specific areas such as Enugu, Imo, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Cross River.
Additionally, the agency anticipates intermittent rains across the region later in the day.
On Wednesday, NiMet predicts that the northern region will have sunny skies with scattered clouds. There is a possibility of morning thunderstorms over parts of Borno, Yobe, Taraba, and Adamawa.
The public is strongly advised to exercise caution, particularly during heavy rainfall, by staying indoors to minimize the risk of being struck by lightning.
Airline operators are encouraged to regularly obtain weather reports from NiMet to ensure effective planning and operation management.
The occurrence of moderate to heavy rainfall increases the potential for flash floods. The public is urged to take necessary precautions to protect themselves. It is also advised that disaster risk managers, agencies, and individuals proactively take steps to prevent any loss of lives and property during the rainy season.
