The Labour Party's governorship candidate of Kwara state, Basambo Abubakar, has been suspended for alleged anti-party activities and dissemination of misleading information to members of the public.

According to report, Abubakar, a former aide to former Senate President Bukola Saraki, had claimed that Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state had decided to work together for March 18 governorship elections, to birth a collective dream for a prosperous Kwara state.

However, during interview with reporters in Ilorin, the party's chairman Kehinde Rotimi said that the party did not align with any governorship candidate or political party in the state for the Saturday governorship elections.

The chairman added that the governorship candidate acted against what the party stands for as he had no such authority to announce the alignment of the Labour Party with any party in the state.

The party chairman urged the members of the public to disregard the statement credited to its governorship candidate, adding that all House of Assembly candidates of the party are still in the race.
