The Ogun State Police Command has rescued a journalist, Oduneye Olusegun on March 11. The journalist was kidnapped by some gun men in Mobalufon area of Ijebu Ode on March 9. Olusegun was said to have been coming from Abeokuta when he was kidnapped in Mobalufon area in his car around 7.50pm.

The kidnappers, however called his wife through his phone for a ransom of N30 million Naira. The incident was immediately reported to the Commissioner of Police, CP Frank MBA who directed the DPO Obalende divisional headquarters, SP Murphy Salami, whose jurisdiction the kidnap took place, to rescue the victim.

Acting on the CP's order, the DPO mobilized his detective's on technical and intelligence base investigation of the incident.

After thorough investigations, they traced the victims Toyota Camry to Idimu area of Lagos, where the kidnappers were hiding waiting for the ransom.

Immediately they sighted the Police, they opened arm on the Police as the Police shot back at them for about 45 minutes before the kidnappers abandoned the car and ran away with injuries. 

The victims car which was soaked with blood from the kidnappers was recovered.

The Police rescued the victim after the kidnappers abandoned him for fear of losing their lives.

SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Spokesperson of the State Police Command, who confirmed the incident said the Commissioner of Police, CP Frank Mba, who commended the effort and bravery of his men also appealed to members of the public especially hospitals and traditional healers to inform the police if anybody with gunshot injury is seen in their area. He further said that the CP also warns criminals to stay clear from Ogun state, because the Command are fully ready to fight them.
