In a press statement signed by the Head of Media and Publicity for the National Blood Service Commission, Haruna Abdullahi, Dr Omale Amedu, the acting Director-General, revealed that the World Blood Donor Day Committee has been established by the Federal Government. The committee comprises representatives from various government agencies, non-governmental organizations, including the World Health Organisation, and the commission. Its responsibility is to ensure that the World Blood Donor Day celebration is successful.

June 14, 2023, is the scheduled date for the World Blood Donor Day celebration.

Omale emphasized the significance of the event's success and efficient management, underscoring the pivotal contribution of blood donors in the healthcare sector. The celebration of World Blood Donor Day strives to increase consciousness regarding the significance of blood donation and promote more individuals to regularly donate blood.

Additionally, the occasion presents a chance to acknowledge the valuable contributions of volunteer unpaid blood donors to healthcare systems and express gratitude towards them for their life-saving donations. The committee's objective is to plan and execute a fruitful event that not only creates awareness about blood donation but also motivates more Nigerians to donate blood regularly.
