A member of an armed robbery gang targeting Point of Sales (PoS) systems has been apprehended by the Police Command in Delta State. The arrest took place in the Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state, where the 27-year-old suspect was captured. The police spokesperson in Delta, DSP Bright Edafe, reported on Wednesday that the arrest occurred on Monday. Furthermore, during the arrest, the police also seized ammunition from the suspect.
According to Edafe, the suspect was apprehended by police officers who were conducting a routine patrol along the Mosogar-Oghara Expressway in the local government area. The suspect, along with his unidentified accomplices who managed to escape, were spotted by the patrol team. Upon noticing the police presence, the suspects quickly fled into a nearby bush. However, one of them was successfully apprehended, and during the arrest, a locally-made pistol and a live cartridge were seized from the suspect.
According to Edafe, the remaining two suspects managed to evade capture by fleeing into the bush. The suspect who was arrested admitted to being part of a three-person gang that specifically targeted PoS systems for robbery. Edafe also mentioned that an ongoing investigation is currently being conducted to gather more information regarding the case.
