The recently established pro-Western administration in Bulgaria plans to extend military assistance to Ukraine, enabling it to protect itself against Russian aggression.

As announced by the government press office on Monday, Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov's cabinet has officially endorsed a fresh aid package comprising military support and military technology for Ukraine.

Although specific details were not disclosed, it was mentioned that the size of the package would be comparable to Bulgaria's initial aid package for Kyiv, which was provided towards the end of 2022. Similar to the previous instance, detailed information regarding the aid package was not disclosed at the time.

Despite being a NATO member since 2004, Bulgaria, a former Eastern bloc country, continues to possess armaments of Soviet design. The country has recently witnessed a disagreement over its stance on providing support to Ukraine, causing tensions between the current government, in power since June 6, and President Rumen Radev, who is perceived as having friendly relations with Russia. President Radev cautioned that Bulgaria would participate in the European Union's initiative to provide ammunition to Ukraine, a move that he opposes.

In contrast, Defense Minister Todor Tagarev announced an increased level of Bulgarian assistance in line with the EU's efforts to supply Ukraine with the necessary ammunition.
