According to a statement jointly signed and released by Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika and Kunle Adegoke, who are representing Seun Kuti, the son of the legendary Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti, it has been confirmed that the singer will be released today (Tuesday). The lawyers emphasized that the release of Mr. Kuti on bail, as ordered by the Magistrate, is pending administrative approval.
As stated in the released statement, today's hearing was held with the intention of receiving advice from the Lagos Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The court had previously ruled that the case should be handled by the DPP's office rather than the police, and consequently, the police were instructed to submit the case file to the DPP for assessment and determination regarding prosecution.
Today, the court was scheduled to convene in order to receive advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). However, the session did not take place due to the Magistrate's absence, as they were reportedly attending a training course. Furthermore, it was revealed that the advice from the DPP is not yet available, as the police investigation team still retains possession of the case file.
However, regardless of the court's physical sitting, the release of Mr. Kuti on bail, as instructed by the Magistrate, is solely pending administrative approval. The progress of this process is independent of the court's session. We maintain optimism that Mr. Kuti will be released today based on the granted bail, as he has fulfilled the specified conditions.
